Werewolves and Pirates and Dopplegangers, oh my!

What a great weekend! After having midweek at the Isherwood's (five flights of stairs and no elevator.... Yeah!) we were invited along to camp with some of the singles and the Ish's in a few weeks. Awesome! That's when Todd mentioned the werewolf island (also known as Lovells) men only camping trip this weekend... I realized that it was the same trip that Andrew had mentioned (and I had invited myself to) earlier that day! Three days without a shower or indoor plumbing... Count me in!

Too bad the day before I was supposed to go my back went out... BOOOOO! Ah well, nurse Lisa signed off on the trip after some stern warnings and stinky Chinese medicine... I'm so glad I was able to make it, even though I pretty much had to sit around most of the day Friday and Saturday. I knew the trip would be special the minute the boat left longwharf...

So when you come and visit, don't forget to mention how you want to take the ferry to George's Island, and hang there for a few hours... Totally worth the 14 bucks.... After that it was on to Lovells and a weekend of manly things...

- Playing with axes
- Shooting each other with an airsoft gun
- Playing cards
- Eating way too much meat and no fiber
- Walking across a burning log
- Staying up way too late and talking about random manly things
- Making fun of each other
- Singing manly spiritual songs
- Hiding from werewolves
- Hiding manly beverages from Ranger Tim (or whatever his name was....)
- Lifting heavy rocks...

You get the picture.... Probably the best thing that I can share about publicly was the campsites... The view from our campfire, and the sunset in particular were just stunning... Lovell's is an old navy fortification that has long since been abandoned, with the old buildings slowly falling into the sea. It's tough to make out in the sunset, but there in the distance is the Boston skyline, and there to the left is Nix's Mate, a teeny island where they displayed dead pirates as a warning to all the ships entering Boston... (Proof)

All in all it was a fantastic weekend, and I realized toward the end that God has blessed me with a group of men eerily similar to my closest friends in LA. It was sort of like that episode of the Simpsons where they go to Shelbyville and the kids are just like them only slightly different...

I won't say much more, but I can't wait to sit Team Carrow's down across from the Team Man-cation for a hearty game of Risk, or something equally time consuming... Like talking about what the universe is expanding into...
