It was extra hot and humid, but we had just gotten our bikes and were eager to hit the road. Now, I don't have much experience with biking. A few rides for fun here and there, but definitely not for getting from point A to point B, and not in traffic! Well, moving to Boston I knew that I had to get over my fears and learn to jump in there with everyone else. And boy I''m glad I did! Its so great to be able to around the city with bikes.
Oh yeah, back to the story. So there we are, outside the bike shop ready to go. Abram was teaching me the basics on start/stop/get through traffic. As we were talking there were a few drops of rain, and in like one minute, it really started to rain. We decided to ride, because, well, what else were we going to do? I couldn't chicken out! I was so nervous and out of practice that I was shaking all over the road, in the rain, on a big traffic street.... it makes me nervous just thinking of it. By the time we made it to the end of the block the rain came down so hard we had to hide under some scaffolding. There was thunder, lightning, strong winds, and we were soaked. Finally, it calmed down enough that the rain was mild enough to ride home in. By the time we made it home (15 min) the rain was totally gone. I was on a high from having overcome my scardeycatness, so we continued on our bike ride.
It was gorgeous. Boston is so beautiful.
I was amazed at how much of the city was so easy to get to. I am so excited about living here. We rode along the river, saw geese and kayakers and I almost caused a collision on the bike path. I was falling in love with Boston. I felt all the excitement and hope that one feels at the beginning of a great romantic relationship. My face was hurting from all the smiling. I wouldn't be surprised if I had bugs in my teeth!
There is so much to see. Walking through the public garden was amazing. It was free! and in the middle of the city! wow! I can't wait! This is going to be a great summer :D This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
